CIAK features a patent protected horizontal elastic band, one major advantage of which is that a pen can be securely fastened to the notebook without fear of loss or damage. We've tried this with a variety of pens of different sizes ranging from a Pilot G2 to a Mont Blanc and the CIAK secured each one perfectly.
This is something that is simply impossible with any other notebook, due to their conventional vertical elastic bands. A quick look at the various Moleskine hacks on the Internet demonstrates the usefulness and value of having a pen attached to the notebook in this way.
