Originally titled Ichigo Ichie — a popular Zen phrase teaching us that each moment comes just Once in a Lifetime — the work celebrates the visually rich world of traditional Japanese motifs and their auspicious nature.
Higashi creates her works surrounded by nature at her home and atelier located at the foot of the Yatsugatake Mountains at an altitude of 1180m. Her work features whatever medium that catches her eye on her desk from coloured pencils and pens to acrylics and watercolours, and is characterised by a bold and colourful style.
