Kokuyo PERPANEP Notebook

A clever meeting between paper and pen.

Let's make paper better. This was KOKUYO's starting point and in designing the PERPANEP series, they focused on the compatibility of these two elements - the way the pen glides across the paper and their compatibility with each other is the very essence of these notebooks. The word PERPANEP is a portmanteau (a blending) of the two words 'Paper' and 'Pen'.

The result? Paper that produces the best in writing comfort, with three different comfort levels: ULTRA SMOOTH, SMOOTH and TEXTURED.

Did you notice the three symbols on the cover of the PERPANEP notebook? Each symbol indicates a paper type (and a series).

Let's breakdown the three different types of paper, below.

ULTRA SMOOTH is also known as the TSURU TSURU series and contains 96gsm paper.

SMOOTH is also known as the SARA SARA series and contains 75gsm paper.

TEXTURED is also known as the ZARA ZARA series and contains 90gsm paper.

Additionally, each paper type series has 5 layouts depending on what sort of style you prefer writing or drawing on: 3MM Grid, 4MM Grid, 5MM Grid, 4MM Dot Grid, 6MM Steno.

Features of the notebook
The notebook uses a cheesecloth binding, which enables it to open flat. The cover is manufactured using
rayon thread and paper made from wood pulp to create a lovely surface that feels smooth to the touch, but still with some texture and rigidity to the cover.

Because it opens so flat, the notebook can be used horizontally as a larger pad for drawing and sketching - sort of like an A4 sized pad. The cheesecloth binding means that you won't feel any dips in the centre of the notebook as you lay it open, so you can draw and sketch (or even write!) across the centre of the two-page spread.

FSC Certified Paper
Whilst we all love a good notebook, we do need to be mindful that we're not hurting the environment and contributing to a global issue so it's reassuring to know that the cover is made with recycled pulp and the paper inside is Forest certified; this means that the paper is made using responsibly sourced wood fiber, free of any endangered tree species and what's more, the paper is whitened without the use of chlorine - so no nasty harsh chemicals.
