Yamamoto Paper Writing Pad: Sanzen Tomoe River [A5]

£19.00

Yamamoto Paper’s WRITING PAD series is a collection of writing pads that let you enjoy the textures and writing experiences of various types of paper.

The Tomoe River Paper Company discontinued their production of Tomoe River in 2021 due to a change in business direction. However, in order to keep the worldly renowned Tomoe River alive, the brand was transferred to Sanzen Paper Mfg. of Kanazawa City, Ishikawa Prefecture. Sanzen had been producing 52g/m2 pocketbook paper since 1976. Using this experience, they reassessed the secret recipe that was a mixture of hardwood pulp (eucalyptus) and softwood pulp (pine, etc.) and reconstituted the quality of the paper as Sanzen Tomoe River S. As a result, they were able to improve on the consistency of the pulp and create a paper that is smoother and more resistant to bleeding. The paper is also 5 microns thicker, which gives it a firmer feel and greater strength against rubbing, which is useful for use with pencils and popular erasable pens. Sanzen Paper Mfg. started full-scale production of Sanzen Tomoe River S in February 2022. Fountain pen tests conducted by Yamamoto Paper showed that even with low viscosity inks such as J. HERBIN’s pinks and reds, the drying time was quick and the ink did not bleed through even when large amounts of ink were put on the paper.

The Yamamoto Shigyo WRITING PAD series
The Yamamoto Shigyo WRITING PAD series is a series of writing pads that allow you to enjoy the writing comfort of various types of paper. The 2019 outbreak of the new coronavirus has brought about major changes in the social infrastructure that has been cultivated in all areas. In the past, paper manufacturers in Japan focused on user feedback and past history, changing the type of paper for the same product depending on the region in which it was sold, or developing multiple types of paper to suit different applications. As a result, we have produced a wide variety of papers, which is rare in the world. However, the new coronavirus infection has put paper manufacturers in a difficult situation, and they have accelerated the consolidation of less profitable paper brands in order to shift their management resources. And now, a variety of papers are being phased out. In order to preserve the writing comfort of these papers, Yamamoto Shigyo has conducted writing tests to select papers and develop them into writing pads. We hope you will enjoy the wonderful feeling of writing on these papers that you may only be able to experience now.
